1. Run DISM and SFC Scan:

The user should hit on the Start button and then write cmd and then choose Run as administrator from the search results. After this, you should enter the below command and then hit on Enter key to run it:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

When the scanning process complete, then paste the below command in Command Prompt and then tap on Enter button:

sfc /scannow

2. Use Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter:

First, you need to tap on Start button and then choose Settings. After this, select Update & Security option. Now, you should choose Troubleshoot option from the left side and then tap on Additional troubleshooters from the right side of the screen. At this point, you should scroll down till you locate Windows Store Apps and then hit on it to expand. Next, you should tap on Run the troubleshooter option. At last, you should use the troubleshooter to fix File Explorer and Downloads folder.

3. Optimize Downloads Folder for General Items:

For this, you should tap on Win key + E key together to open File Explorer. After this, you should right-tap on your Downloads directory and then choose Properties. Now, you should choose the Customize tab and then choose General items from the drop-down menu. 4. Select Always Show Icons Option:

5. Disable Automatic Folder Type Discovery by using Registry Editor:

To disable, you should tap on Windows + R key simultaneously to start a Run window and then write regedit and press Enter or OK key. After this, you should visit to the below Registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell

Here, you need to delete the Bags and BagsMRU subkeys just under Shell. At this point, you should right-tap on Shell and then choose New, and then go to Key in order to recreate the Bags subkey. Now, you should right tap on the newly created Bags and then choose New and Key just to create a new AllFolders subkey. Next under AllFolders, you have to create a new key and just name it Shell. After this, you will get the below path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell

Then, you have to right hit on the right side and then choose New and String Value and just name it FolderType. The user should double tap on the FolderType and just set its value to NotSpecified and tap on OK button. In the end, just restart your PC so that the changes to take place and then check if the Downloads folder is working.
