Method To Use Shapes To Create Flowchart in MS Word:
If the user wants to create a flowchart from scratch, then they should first begin with a drawing canvas, and then you should add shapes to it. After this, you have to change the color and outline of the shapes and then just draw connecting lines between the shapes.
- Create Drawing Canvas:
If the user wants to add a drawing canvas to a Word document, then they should first select the location in the Word document where you will locate the drawing canvas. After this, you should go to the Insert tab and then select Shapes and then click on New Drawing Canvas in order to add a drawing canvas to the document. Now, you have to select the drawing canvas, and then go to the Shape Format tab and just select Wrap Text. At this point, you have to choose how the text wrap around the drawing canvas like Top and Bottom in order to stop text from coming along the sides of the canvas. If you want to change the size of the drawing canvas, then you should drag a corner in order to make the drawing canvas smaller or larger. Just to add a border, you have to select the drawing canvas, you have to go to the Shape Format tab and then choose Shape Outline. Here in the Color palette, you have to select an outline color, and then choose Weight just to change the line thickness and after this, you should choose Dashes in order to change the line style. At the end, if you find the drawing canvas looks the way you want, then you should start adding shapes.
- Add Shapes to Drawing Canvas:
For this, you should go to the Insert tab and then select Shapes. After this, you should visit to the Flowchart section and then select a shape. Now, you have to choose the location on the drawing canvas just to place the shape. Here, you will see a shape with a default size and color is there on the canvas. At this point, you should add other shapes in order to complete the flowchart. If in case, the user wants to resize the shapes, then you should go to the Shape Format tab in order to change the fill color and with this, you can add an outline color, shape style or shape effect. www.office.com/myaccount
- Add Text to Shapes:
To add text to shapes, you should double-click the shape and then enter descriptive text which explains the purpose of the shape. When you complete typing, then you should select a blank area of the drawing canvas. In order to format text in a shape, you should select the shape and then go to the Home tab. After this, you should change the font color, font style and the font size. If the user wants to apply the same text formatting to every shape, then you should choose an area of the drawing canvas and then press Ctrl+A together to select all shapes.
- Add Connectors Between Shapes:
For this, you should go to the Insert tab and then select Shapes. Then in the Lines section, you should select a line shape just to use as a connector between shapes. Now, you should drag from one shape to another shape. Here, you will see the dots appear on the outline of the two shapes and these dots show you where you can attach a connector line. At this point, you should add lines till all the shapes are connected. If you want to move a line, then just select the line and drag an endpoint. If you want to move a connected shape, then choose the shape and just drag it to a different place. But if you want to change the look of lines, then choose the lines you wish to change, and then go to the Shape Format tab and just select Shape Outline, line color, thickness and also the style.
